Heat protection for e-bike batteries
Summer is here and temperatures are rising with it.
However, many people underestimate that this heat can significantly shorten the lifespan of an e-bike battery.
Many people are travelling by e-bike right now, so it is all the more important to protect the battery properly. We'll give you a few tips on how to cycle safely through the summer on your e-bike.
Why is heat harmful to e-bike batteries?
Most modern electric bike batteries use lithium-ion technology. Although these batteries are powerful and long-lasting, they are sensitive to heat.

Temperatures above 30 °C can:
- damage the cell chemistry,
- permanently reduce the capacity,
- reduce the charging cycles,
A permanently overheated battery can even become a danger if damage occurs inside the battery.
Our tips
1. avoid direct sunlight
Do not leave your e-bike in the direct sunlight - especially not with the battery inserted. Park your bike in the shade or take the battery indoors.
2. do not store in a hot car
In summer, the interior of a vehicle can heat up to over 60 °C - this is extremely damaging for batteries. Never store your E-Bike battery in a closed car, not even for a short time!
3. do not charge the battery hot
After a tour in extreme heat, you should allow the battery to cool down completely before connecting it to the charger. Charging at temperatures above 30-35 °C can lead to charging errors or permanent damage.
4. check more often in hot weather
Do you notice that the battery is unusually hot after a ride? Then it is better to remove it and store it at room temperature for the time being. A slight rise in temperature is normal, whereas a strong rise in temperature is a warning signal.
In the long term, temperatures of 30 °C not only put a strain on you, but also on your battery.
If possible, you should store and charge the battery between 18 and 23 °C to prevent permanent damage from the heat.
